St. Agatha of Sicily, 231-251, Virgin and Martyr of the Church, is the patron saint of breast cancer patients, martyrs, wet nurses, bell-founders, and bakers. When she refused the advances of a pagan suitor, he reported her to the Roman authorities as a Christian. She was t@rtured, including have her bre@sts cut from her body. This medal is crafted from an original design, carved in wood, and then cast in sand with reclaimed aluminum. Agatha is pictured with halo, holding the martyr's laurel and a platter holding her severed bre sts -- a traditional image of her martyrdom. "St. Agatha Pray for Us" is stamped into the metal on the reverse. The medal comes with a split ring suitable for attaching it to a chain, lanyard, keychain, or rosary. Measures approximately 1.25" and weighs 1/4 ounce. Aluminum is lightweight, does not tarnish or rust, and is generally considered hypoallergenic (people with metal allergies may still experience irritation with aluminum).
