The unique story behind the Spode Christmas tree is that a young designer in England was asked to design a Christmas pattern for the American market. He had never seen a decorated Christmas tree. His first sketch he suspended the gifts from the branches, but he realized that wouldn’t work. He amended his sketches when he told was told the American tradition was to put gifts under the tree, So he used another Christmas icon in a most delightful way adorning the top of the tree with Jolly Saint Nick, this design is both unique and charming as do Spode Christmas tree lovers around the world agree. The candy dish measures 11” x 7.25” The back is stamped Spode dishwasher freezer and microwave safe first production 1938 The dish is brand new and it was only taken out for photos.
