Smith & Wesson briefcase, vintage, 18”x13.5” (5” maximum bottom extension)

Vintage leather-trimmed presentable briefcase suitable for carrying files, notepads and manuscripts, perhaps a couple of soft-bound law books. Given the high prices of new briefcases these days, perhaps this well-loved leather-trimmed Smith & Wesson version can do additional duty. Easy slide fasteners on front side; no keys available. Two main inside sections separated by a zipper-top partition compartment — but the zipper is open and off-track so it cannot be closed. One side has leather holders for small devices, cards, and pens, as shown. Flaws: zipper not functional; substantial patina; wear on 6 leather edges of bottom exterior, one of which is worn through for a half-inch; scuffs on metal Smith&Wesson label; one-inch of side accordion top edge stitching is undone but does not interfere with use (a shoe repair shop could probably re-stitch.); strap is not detachable, made of heavy strapping fabric, somewhat folded but can be flattened by steam ironing. Exterior measurements 18” by 13.5” with a bottom width at full extension of the pleats 5”.
