Signed Vintage African Art Object Wall Hanging

Unique piece of vintage African art that I got at an antique store. Signed by the artist, F. Sokenon. Strings attached for hanging. This round painted object seems like it could have once been the top of a drum. Painted scene of rowers rowing boats in the sunset. Seems to be made of some wood and maybe papier maché? If you tap it though, it makes a sort of drum noise which is why I think it used to be part of a drum or other instrument.
