kellstreasures
@serenity_style_ Absolutely! We still have overnight frost into May. It makes it challenging for sure. This morning when I went out to start chores it was 1ยฐ at sunup. By the time I got all of our animals set so I could start milking, I couldnโt feel my hands. Haha! Right now itโs 12ยฐ.

@serenity_style_ We do have mail delivery. We live in an unincorporated village just outside of town up on the mountain. When the mail lady can make it up our way she definitely does. However, I drive a 12 passenger van as my main vehicle so I can fit all our children and it doesnโt leave the property often. Between the snow and then the mud during mud season our road is impassable quite often. It keeps life interesting. ๐

@kellstreasures oh gosh yes we want to retire near hayden lake idaho n we currently live in a area where it gets 95 n up 103 degrees in the summer months I use to work all day in the yard 2 acres but I still do at 63 but not all day n I've gotten to the point where it kinda makes me feel sick to be out in it so long. I know

@kellstreasures when we move the winters will have snow longer but not so cold in the winter here we get frigid 3 n 5 degress.. so curious do u also make homemade jam n etc. I'm assuming with a big family n farm u must do a lot of freezing. Do you meal prep. there's only two of us now but I've been reading n watching some keto diets or just cleaner eating I don't

@kellstreasures have a weight issue n eat fairly healthy but as weget older n it's harder for me to exercise like I use to not because of will power because I want to do it n do but I have to watch due to health issues in my hib n lower back..

@kellstreasures I feel it would be more beneficial to meal prep possibly 5 meals n lunchs for us. Hubby has to watch his diet n he salts everything way to much.

@serenity_style_ Yes, we make pretty much everything ourselves. Our meats, dairy, fibers, etc all come from our homestead. We make our dairy products including butter, cheeses, sour cream, yogurt, ice cream. Our soaps, candles, lotions are homemade. We also have flower gardens, berry patches, orchards.
kellstreasures
@serenity_style_ We grow our own loofah plants to use as natural sponges. We try really hard to be self sustaining. We have multiple streams throughout our property and a few ponds so Iโm looking into expanding a bit to include raising our own fish as well. If only there were more hours in the day. ๐
kellstreasures
@serenity_style_ I do meal plan but I incorporate it as part of our homeschooling curriculum. That way all of the children can learn how to plan a well balanced meal as well as grow/harvest the ingredients and then they learn how to bake and cook based on what we have planned. We preserve a lot of our foods so that is another skill that they each learn.

@serenity_style_ We donโt sell any of our handcrafted items. Instead, we gift things regularly. Whether it be eggs, meat, soap, berries, apples, baked goods, etc. We feel very fortunate to have the skills to be able to raise and provide for a large family. We are happy to pass on the knowledge and skills whenever possible. Unfortunately, the art of food preservation, animal husbandry, homesteading in general has been lost over the generations and many are eager to learn them in our community.
