Hi fellow poshers and sezane lovers! I made this post to discuss possible sezane fakes.
I own many sezanes but very few were bought from sezane directly because they sold out so fast. I got my first black barry cardigan from a seemingly reputable seller and didn’t suspect a thing. Not until I got my third and fourth barry I started to notice the discrepancy in quality between my barrys.
Please share your experience (in most cases expensive experience😭) and tips to help others avoid fakes

So I did some research and found a place where ppl share their experience about buying dupes from overseas. I have no problem with that but here’s the scary part, the pictures they posted look exactly like my two barrys made in China, down to the sideway tag.

Sezane has factories in many countries so I always thought the reason my made in Italy barrys feel and look so different from my made in China ones was due to different fabrics content. Now I’m not sure that’s the case.
And there’re fakes for almost every sezane pieces, paulin, Mario, tonia, joy...even the not so popular ones. 😭

The first three pics are confirmed fakes
The mustard barry was bought from e/b/ay. I later checked her new feedbacks and yes she’s been selling fake stuff☹️
Moka is authentic. I put it next to the mustard barry for a better comparison.
I’m not sure about the black one

@clutzcc The fakes often have the size tag on the side, by the materials. Real Sezane has size tag attached to the bottom of the neck tag. The neck tag on real Sezanes lately often has the full company name with Fait Avec Amor la maille Sezane. The weave on fake sezanes is often tighter and the thread visibly thicker than the mohair blend of the real thing.

And i know from unfortunate experience that the Sam fakes have the apostrophe-shaped openings in the knit facing the wrong direction, and buttons that aren’t as finely enameled and without the slight notching that is on the real buttons. These aren’t necessarily true for all models but maybe a good guide for reference? Big tell I think is the size tag near materials and not at top.

Sorry should edit—the real tags, at least lately, have the Rue and La Maille Sezane I think.

@sleuthwood Thanks so much for the helpful info lovely! I'd never think of checking the location of size tag! It was part of the reasons why the black barry doesnt feel authentic to me, font looks kinda off too. I'm really sad there're so many fakes even in the second-hand market :( it's not even that big of a brand

@clutzcc Can confirm the Moka is authentic! I have a barry in Moka and the tag looks exactly the same. The last picture looks like a fake for the reason mentioned above - the size tag shouldn't be there. The pink one is hard to say - older sezane barry's may have that tag (think 3+ years ago), so can't say for certain

@modernateliersf yes that moka cardigan got me seriously started doubting the authenticity of my other two barrys- how can the same cardigan from same brand be so different? Oh well at least I still have one authentic barry lol. This certainly gives me pause about buying sezane from strangers, and some of them might not even know they are selling fakes.

@modernateliersf the pink one is fake. I got the picture from the company selling fakes. It's really hard to tell from the photos but for some reason the fake ones so far all had "by morgane sezalory" in the tag. I haven't seen that in the authentic ones since their madewell collection but I could be wrong.

@clutzcc I think the "by morgane sezalory" is authentic on older sezane items - they changed the tags maybe 2 years ago? around F/W 2018 were probably the last items made with those. They've switched to the new tags from 2019 and onwards for sure

modernateliersf
@clutzcc the obvious fakes with the "by morgan sezalory" tags are the Sams and Marios - those should all have the new tags!

@modernateliersf wow that's super helpful!! I wish I'd known sooner :/ They updated the tag, now it reads paris sezane rue saint-fiacre 2' arr just like the real ones but missing LA MAILLE in front of sezane. @sleuthwood mentioned the more recent seazanes should have full company name " La Maille Sezane" on tag, which is def true for my moka barry and sam. I wonder if this applies to all though as I only have these two.

@clutzcc it should apply for all the sams and marios (I have multiple colors of those, and those were all released end of 2018! it's not possible for them to have tags any older). For the barry - it depends by color. some of the colors have been around for a long time (like the ecru, black, gray), whereas other colors are newer and should only ever have the "la maille" tag (moka, sky blue, burgundy)

@clutzcc mostly am just annoyed that there are fakes, and there are repeatedly some sellers who only sell fakes and try to pass them off as real ones! ebay like you mentioned is where some of the worst repeat offenders are...and i'm sure some of the people who purchase them are unaware that they are inauthentic because they haven't seen a real one due the rarity :/ It's one thing to sell an "inspired by", it's another to claim its real

Thanks so much for this posting. I will be buying direct from now on. Too risky otherwise!

@mokseitz Maybe try emailing sezane customer service to ask? Usually they can give some sense of what’s normal

Thank you so much for this posting! So sad to hear people are doing this! Bringing awareness to these scams helps us all be more confident shoppers if purchasing outside of Sezane’s website.

Adding to this, but the size should be at the top, with the bigger tag. Even on the older Barrys. But the older top tags won't say "La Maille Sezane " because that's a newer thing in the last few years.
I have an old Barry listed that I bought years ago in France, before Sezane even had an in-person stores, if you want to see what the old tags look like.

Hi, I saw that the fabric materials % is different here:
- Your photo: 40% Nylon, 32% kid mohair, 28% Laine merinos
- Sezane web: 37% kid mohair, 37% baby alpaga, 26% polyamide
