Gorgeous vintage belt.. It's leather and some kind of metal. Do you know anything about it? Maybe some background, time period? Has patent stamped into the hook eye closure.. And those numbers, I'll get the info. It's awesome.

babalon156 @wannagetit Get the info! This is really pretty. Also - describe the elastic/fabric as best you can - is it more of a webbing (cloth or jute woven material) OR is it more elastic... and of course the type of elastic/blend can help us date it!

wannagetit @babalon156 it's leather lovey, and the metal has oxidized... It's so beautiful. There are little number on the metal plates, but no designer name. It's kinda midevil.

wannagetit @gaylenknack thank you, the numbers are letters. I'm just looking for a time period. Wondering if I should list here it an antique site somewhere, or just hold onto it for a while. I'll probably hold into it for a while. So many beautiful items, I cant keep them all.

excelencia @wannagetit What a gorgeous belt! The design looks like art nouveau, and is possibly English based on the style of the mark which is not a sterling silver hallmark but says EPNS, which means electro plated nickel silver. The metal is silver plated over nickel silver which is not silver but an alloy of nickel, copper and zinc (or very rarely, nickel alone.) I collect antique silver and will do some research to see if I can find some more info for you!

excelencia @wannagetit I found several belts with similar types of metal buckles and pieces, some sterling silver and some silver plated. The ones I found were called Nurse's belts! I was not familiar with these items before reading about them so am not sure if all the information is accurate but the belt appears to be from roughly the late 1800s to 1920s and you have an amazing, historical treasure!

excelencia @wannagetit 💐 You’re welcome! It was fun to research it and so interesting to discover that nurses wore these back then! If you google images for Nurse’s belt you’ll see a ton of examples. Some only have the two buckle pieces but yours has pieces across the back too which makes me wonder which way it was worn. Some people just collect the buckle part possibly because that’s all that’s left of soma belt. You are lucky to have the whole thing!
