As a watch enthusiast, I was thrilled to discover the Seagull 1963 Chronograph through a watch club in Shanghai. The club members spoke highly of its vintage charm and the unique history behind this Chinese-made chronograph. I couldn’t resist picking one up, especially since it offers such great value for its quality and heritage. Now, I’m offering it for sale, ready for another collector to enjoy this stylish piece with a rich story.
History: Seagull 1963 Chronograph, a popular and historically significant model produced by the Tianjin Seagull Watch Group in China. Tianjin Seagull Watch Group in China acquired the rights to the Venus 175 movement, a Swiss chronograph movement, in the early 1960s. This movement was originally developed by the Swiss watch manufacturer Venus SA, but the company sold its machinery and designs to the Tianjin Watch Factory (which later became Seagull) when it ceased production of the Venus 175.
This model is often referred to as the “Chinese Air Force” or “1963 Chronograph” because it was initially designed for Chinese military pilots in the 1960s.
The Seagull 1963 is popular among collectors due to its historical significance, mechanical movement, and affordability. It’s considered an entry-level mechanical chronograph with a unique heritage.
Price: 375 new but is sold out.
