In 1987 the Mills were renovated and turned into a shopping center and dining complex." In the 1880's, Akron, OH was known for its production of matches, sewer pipe, farm machinery, strawboard, and cereals. Cereal was the largest industry, though, and Ferdinand Suchmacher owned the greatest oatmeal-producing mills in town. The beautiful Schumacher Mill was home to one of the greatest oatmeal-producing mills in the city of Akron, Ohio until 1971, when the Quaker Oats Company left town.
