Gorgeous Santo Domingo Pueblo made shell festival necklace. The necklace is made of heishi from shell and a few beads of turquoise, coral, lapis and either purple jade or sugalite. The pendant is made from an actual clam shell that's been cut to represent a "Kiva Step" which is a pattern that represents the physical and spiritual path in and out of Kiva or the three levels of the underworld. The shell is then covered in block turquoise pieces and coral with one jet and one white stone. Believed to be late 80s to early 90s in age. This style of necklace is often called a parade or festival necklace and the use of block material makes them big and showy, but still affordable. In excellent condition. The necklace is 20" long, not counting the pendant. The pendant is 4" x 3 3/4" in size.
