STRIKING 1930s’ BLACK STRAW WIDE BRIM HAT WITH WHITE LACE TRIM UNDER THE BRIM

This striking black thin straw wide brim hat consists of a medium crown which is flat at the top and slanted forward. The wide brim tapers towards the back, and a surprising narrow scalloped lace trim is attached to the underside of it. The brim is edged in a double gathered grosgrain band. This is an outstanding piece of vintage fashion, showcasing the elegant millinery craftsmanship of the era. Label: NEW YORK CREATION The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City and the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous and wanted to support the New York Creation label and keep it competitive with French styles of the era.
