From Raymisa, Fair Trade Organization:
REVERSED PAINTED GLASS
The ancient technique of reverse painted glass arrived in Peru with the Spanish in the 16th century. First, local Peruvian artisans copied the Spanish techniques, styles and themes but later they developed their own designs. Reverse-glass painting is a technique whereby an image is essentially built up on a sheet of glass in reverse order: final details are painted first, background is added last, and the finished artwork is then viewed from its unpainted side.
It is a skill that requires great care and precision, as the visual surface is painted first then layered over. The end result is a stunning, yet functional piece perfect for making a statement in your home. The range of the products is wide, very known are mirrors, boxes, picture frames, trays or even the decoration of furniture.
