Rochas by Olivier Theyskens F/W 2004 Sequined Skirt

Rochas by Olivier Theyskens Fall/Winter 2004 wool mini skirt with sequins and signature geometric lace trim. The detail on this is immense! In 2002, Theyskens was appointed creative director of Rochas and presented collections from 2003 to 2006. His tenure was brief, but one of my favorites for its focus on feminine (yet not girlish) demi-couture— clothes created for the retail market using techniques from the haute couture atelier such as hand stitching and intricate embroidery which made mass production untenable. When interviewed by the New York Times regarding his philosophy at Rochas, Theyskens pronounced he “…would like to stop global vulgarity.” The lack of advertising & a marketable accessories line, plus Theyskens’ commitment to his rather time-consuming and expensive demi-couture all contributed to the brevity of Rochas’ renaissance.
