Rare vintage California ceramic artwork

This beautiful ceramic art piece came from an estate sale. The daughter of the original owner was there and she said this piece was purchased in California some time in the middle of last century. The artist's signature is scratched on the back edge but I can't make it out, see photos. In mint condition, original price tag on the back. Measures 7.75" square. Great gift!
