Rare Ironstone Butter Keeper Dish

A super rare piece, this was used to help keep cheese & butter fresh before refrigeration happened. Outside a pattern of blue transferware cottage roses, so blousy & Victorian looking! Inside a small resting platter lifts the food up just the finest amount, allowing for ease of use. Fairly genius, you can use with water, or without, depending on your needs. The water keeps bacteria at bay- just refresh regularly and it extends the life of the food. Antique, backstamped Cornell, in good vintage condition with expected patina including iron marks, crazing & one chip, shown. EXTREMELY RARE Will be sent with great care.
