What a spectacular wide brim hat from the fashionable 1950s'! The crown is short and indented at the top. There is a wide matching red velour band around the crown, ending in a large bow at the back. The brim is very wide. This is a stunning and timeless hat! Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. Alternatively, ‘pancake’, ‘platter’, ‘mushroom’ or ‘cart wheel’ hats sat flat atop the head reviving turn of the century styles.
