RARE traditional Russian lacquer box

RARE find! This traditional Russian folk art lacquer box dates to the late 1700s. This box is made from paper-mâché and hand-painted with a detailed miniature winter scene. The box measures 4" (length) x 2 1/2" (width) x 1 1/2" (depth). The inside is painted bright red. The top of the box shows sign of aging. The bottom of the box has ornate designs painted in gold on each of the four sides. On the bottom left corner of the box is script in Russian. Google translator read this as "Made in Russia." The image on this box features "troika," a traditional Russian carriage pulled by three horses, a popular motif especially in Fedoskino. These authentic Russian lacquer boxes are highly sought after by collectors. This box was purchased from an estate auction in Maryland.
