RARE Julia Homer Wilson Framed Lithograph St. Philip's Church Charleston S.C.
Julia Homer Wilson (1910-2001) was born in Georgia, but after moving to Charleston, South Carolina, in the 1940's she became known for her beautiful watercolors of local scenes and buildings. This lithographed print of her original watercolor, done in pretty pastels, depicts St. Philips Church on the aptly named Church Street. The church is on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1836.
The print is mounted in a wood frame with a green mat and an inner narrow line of cream. The framed measurements are approximately 14 by 18 inches. The dust paper on the back is intact, with a hanging wire in place. The artist signed it in the plate, lower right. It's in excellent condition, with some distressing to the frame, but no damage to the glass, mat or print itself. Just elegant and lovely in any room...
>>Julia Homer Wilson studied at the Cochran School of Art in Washington, D. C. and at the Slade School of Art in London. She also studied under Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg, Austria and attended the Academy of Fine Art in Perugia, Italy. Later, she trained with Robert Brackman (1898-1980), a noted portraitist and teacher who instructed Ms. Wilson at the Madison Connecticut Art School in New England.
