This awesome: At 16 he was captured and sold as a slave in Ireland. But after 3 years he escaped, because no chains could contain him! But, get this, instead of living out his days with his family in his homeland, he became ordained as a cleric and went straight back to Ireland, the land where he was held as a slave for 3 presumably very unpleasant years, and dedicated his life to helping the needy in the country that enslaved him.
