Amazon description: The Poem of the Man God (Italian title: Il Poema dell'Uomo-Dio) is a multi volume book of about four thousand pages on the life of Jesus Christ written by Italian mystic Maria Valtorta. The books were first published in Italian in 1956 and has since been translated into 10 languages. The books iare based on over 15,000 handwritten pages produced by Maria Valtorta from 1943-1947. During these years she reported visions of Jesus and Mary and claimed personal conversations with Jesus. Since 1993 the Vatican has remained silent ok. Maria Valtorta was bed ridden in Viareggio Italy for most of her life due to complications from being struck in the back while walking down a street. On Good Friday 1943 she reported a vision in which Jesus appeared and spoke to her. She reported many visions and conversations with Jesus and Saint Mary and said Jesus had asked her to record her visions in writing. She continued to write her visions in her notebooks until 1947 The handwritten pages were surprising to her priest and others in that they included no overwrites, corrections or revisions and seemed like dictations. The fact that she often suffered from heart and lung ailments during the period of the visions made the natural flow of the text even more unusual. Some readers were struck by the fact that the sentences attributed to Jesus in the visions had a distinct and recognizable tone and style that was different from the rest of the text. . .

776chris Are the books in English or Italian? Any writing or markings in any of them? Overall condition?

776chris @melissarose73 would love to respond to your offer but can you post more photos of the inside text? Overall inside condition of the books??

melissarose73
melissarose73 @776chris The books are in English. The biggest problems seem to be the weak binding as pictured. I added two photos of the inside text.

776chris @melissarose73 thank you for the photos. Have they been read through a lot? Is that why the binding is coming undone? Any writing or stains inside?

melissarose73 @776chris I'm not sure why the binding is coming undone. They don't seem to have been heavily used. I don't recall any writing or stains, but I can't guarantee there aren't any. That would be a lot of pages to flip through.

776chris @melissarose73 I sent an offer I hope you’ll accept. Im going to take these into a book repair shop to have the bindings redone on all the books.

776chris
776chris FYI - The repairs for the bindings will cost me at least $85.00 per book.

776chris @melissarose73 regarding my offer, can you let me know what you think? Hopefully we can work something out.

melissarose73
melissarose73 @776chris I honestly think it'd be overkill to pay $85 per book when it could be easily fixed at home with some pva glue and a bamboo skewer. The books are heavy and I will have to pay for upgraded shipping. I feel my original offer was pretty generous. $75 for all 5 books is way lower than anything else I see when I search for these books online.

776chris @melissarose73 Thank You! But you do have your remove the old binding and create a new spine. It’s a lot of work. I will do this because I want to preserve them. And they won’t sit on a shelf, they will be read through a lot.

776chris @melissarose73 can you counter my offer with your original one? I will then purchase. Thank you.

melissarose73
melissarose73 @776chris Thank you. You shouldn't need to remove the binding in this case. The spines themselves are fine, they are just separating a bit. I actually posted a photo of one book in a book repair thread. This was the response:

melissarose73 "Professional book restorers charge a lot of money, far more than the replacement cost of most books. ...
Apr 14Reply
melissarose73
melissarose73 You should be able to fix that yourself. The area inside the spine is supposed to be separate like that (don't glue that together or the book won't open properly), but the endpapers on either side of the spine are supposed to be glued to the inside of the front and back cover boards.

melissarose73 Get something long and thin, such as a bamboo skewer. Cover it in white PVA glue. Slide it into the gaps behind each of the endpapers, and use it to spread the glue around in there. Repeat a few times. Discard the skewer. Then close the book, lay it on a hard flat surface, and stack some other heavy books on it. Should be good to go in a few hours."

776chris @melissarose73 you offered free shipping originally? Now there’s shipping on the price?

melissarose73 @776chris Sorry, there wasn't an option to offer discounted shipping when countering.
