Peruvian Collection Handmade in Peru Alpaca Cardigan Sweater - S A gorgeous cardigan of many colors made entirely by hand by Peruvian artisans. All alpaca yarn has been knitted and over embroidered in an extremely complex Fair Isle pattern that is a technical tour de force of hand knitting and embroidery. Alpaca Yarn is extremely warm - warmer than wool. It is also characterized by a slight halo of fuzzy softness . These extraordinary sweaters are truly works of wearable art and are made in small limited editions numbers. I have counted at least 10 colors of yarn employed in this complex design. As a knitter myself I have the greatest admiration for the artisans who make these sweaters! The design is complicated and it is made on tiny diameter knitting needles. After it is knitted it is then over embroidered on top of the detailed knitting, again by hand, to apply even more complexity to the overall design. Details such as striped banding and knitted fabric covered buttons add even more layers of complexity to the design. There are small shoulder pads in the sweater but you can easily remove them if you prefer to do so. This sweater is vintage & dates from the 1990s. Vintage but looks brand new. There are no flaws or issues of any kind to note. It was barely worn if at all by its original owner.
