Vintage! Produced for Hospital and Hotel use, these are Heavy Duty! The plates are 18-8 Stainless Steel and are Vacuum Filled for Heat Retention(Hot-Pak Unitized). The Covers are Solid Heavy plastic. 1980, 81 is molded on covers. The idea is to heat the base, probably with steam or water or oven, in order to keep food covered and warm.
