I've noticed an uptick in listings of VERY FAKE Tiffany items, nearly all of which are being sold by one person-- and at high prices, too! It's a bummer to see people throwing their money away on junk, but it's also hard to identify fake pieces if you aren't familiar with the real thing. Do your research-- there is a ton of info available online, and if you can possibly visit a Tiffany store, do so! Examining the pieces on Tiffany's own site can also help. I agree completely! It is so frustrating! And it seems as if the "report listing" button does nothing.

A few tips-- To begin with, always keep in mind that Tiffany makes FINE JEWELRY. This means, among other things, that: 1. Tiffany does not EVER use "crystals", "rhinestones" or other non-natural, genuine stones.
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
2. Craftsmanship-- How does Tiffany get away with charging so much more than other brands, even for sterling silver? Sure, part of the markup is due to the name, but their craftsmanship is also MUCH higher quality than other manufacturers. All links are soldered smooth. All settings are perfect. All engravings are deep and perfect. The pieces are heavy because a lot of metal is used. Again, look online for guides on how to spot authentic Tiffany.
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
3. Consistency-- Tiffany items are consistent in size and composition, no matter when they were made. For example, the classic bead bracelet has a specific number of beads. The chain style inside the bead items is also very specific to Tiffany. Again, do your research to know what to look for.
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
Moving on... I've seen lots of sellers (scammers) claim that their item is "vintage" when in fact it's just FAKE. Ok, Tiffany has been making jewelry for a long time, so yes vintage pieces do exist. HOWEVER, Tiffany has also been world-famous for a long time, so it's pretty challenging to come up with something that isn't recorded somewhere else online.
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
Also, many of their designs have remained consistent for decades. So-- is it POSSIBLE to come across a truly unique "vintage" style, not recorded anywhere else on the entire internet? Yes. Is it likely? Nope.
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
Finally, and this is coming from someone that has purchased literally dozens of pre-loved Tiffany pieces over the last few years, if something seems too good to be true, it almost always is. Is it possible to score an AMAZING deal? Sure! Is it more likely you're getting scammed by an unscrupulous seller who is taking advantage of your lack of knowledge + desire to own Tiffany pieces? Yes.
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
EDUCATE YOURSELVES! DON'T GET SCAMMED! Once you know more, you'll be able to shop with confidence. Good luck!
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
@katie8758 😟 I know... buyer beware for sure!
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
"Authentic Tiffany packaging" means NOTHING! The packaging is routinely faked, AND scammers can easily buy authentic packaging to sell their junk in. Don't be fooled by the packaging!
Jan 03Reply

katie8758
@enjoyinglife75 I would report and report and report and the fake crap is still listed. It's super frustrating!!!! And if I comment on a post saying it's fake, I usually just end up getting blocked by the seller.
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
@enjoyinglife75 I hear ya. It's easy to be scammed-- there are very good fakes out there. Were you able to return and get your money back? I've also seen ppl sell inspired pieces as just that-- inspired. They do sell if priced right b/c many people cannot afford Tiffany at pre-loved prices either, and some ppl don't care if a piece is "real" or not. They just want the look. Maybe give that a try?
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
@katie8758 I know; me too! That's why I decided to post this PSA. A scammer can't block me off of my own post!
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
Also-- Tiffany does NOT sell "gold-plated" or "silver-plated" jewelry.
Jan 03Reply

dommy
@enjoyinglife75 can you provide names as I purchase many items and now I'm concerned
Jan 03Reply

dommy
Sorry just saw your post. Good thing I didn't purchase anything from them and never will
Jan 03Reply

lizzieearle
@dommy I still don’t see where it says who the sellers are so I can steer clear. Where do you see it?
Jan 03Reply

dommy
@jneshops can you please let us know those sellers?
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
@enjoyinglife75 Thanks v much! It's funny; we both wrote about metal-plated items at virtually the same time, and it looks like my comment was written in response to yours! But, it wasn't, so I hope it didn't come off as rude to you-- I just wanted to warn everyone about metal-plated items. Glad you received a refund from Posh; I've found they're very good about believing a buyer that encounters a problem. Thanks for the words of encouragement, and I hope you have better luck in the future!
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
@dommy I'd rather not name names b/c my opinion, especially based on what I can decipher from an online listing, isn't infallible. Also, I've seen disputes on this site get super ugly. However, I'm happy to take a look at a piece you've purchased or are considering and give you my opinion. Just tag me on the listing.
Jan 03Reply

jneshops
@dommy I can't guarantee that I'll reply immediately (or even all that quickly, given that sometimes life gets busy), but I am happy to try and help. I really think the best way to go is by reading up on how to tell if a piece is authentic. HTH!
Jan 03Reply

dommy
@jneshops THANK you so much and ill take you up on the offer the next time I purchase.
Jan 03Reply

1figtree
@jneshops Thanks so much for writing this warning to unknowing buyers! I’ve been looking for hours now and didn’t have a clue there was such a thing. I guess I need to be more street smart. I would’ve been ticked if I bought a fake or even an inspired piece for a couple $$ for nothing.
So, thank you for giving us some pointers on how to spot the bad apples. I know now that I’ve seen several. And it’s such a disappointment knowing that there’s people out there scamming others.
Jan 04Reply

jneshops
@mxrgxnfff whaaaaat? Someone can get someone else blocked for reporting fakes? That's ridiculous!
Jan 04Reply

jneshops
@1figtree it does sound bizarre if you've never heard of it, but I've come to realize that if there's a buck to be made someone out there will counterfeit ANYTHING! I collect Hermès scarves too, and there are dozens of listings for counterfeit scarves up right now. I don't see those selling at nearly the rate of Tiffany items tho, and it makes me sad/mad to see people losing their hard-earned money on junk!
Jan 04Reply

1figtree
@jneshops it does me too. I think it’s shameful. Shameful to sell something as the real deal knowing it’s not. Buying it or wearing it - well that’s your prerogative of course. I’m looking at 2 bracelets that should look the same but dont. I can’t tell if one is real or both are fakes.
Jan 04Reply

jneshops
@1figtree hmmmmm. What style?
Jan 04Reply

1figtree
@jneshops Thanks. It’s listed as a Venetian ag925 bracelet
Jan 04Reply

icephoenix821
IKR? You know it’s a lousy fake when you can tell from a tiny thumbnail on a phone screen! What a bunch of eyesores. Another tip, anything signed Elsa Peretti has a small discreet signature because the spotlight is on her design, not name recognition like Tiffany’s mainline. And she has NO pieces that feature symmetrical hearts!
Jan 04Reply

@prairiecv🚨🚨🚨
Jan 05Reply

prairiecv
@jneshops Thank you… I think you just saved me money… I’m pretty sure I know who you’re talking about… I was hoping her stuff was real but I’m guessing it’s not…
Jan 05Reply

jneshops
@prairiecv phew! I was worried my warning was too late... I usually stay out of these things, but when I saw your message about the unexpected expense I decided to reach out. I don't know about ALL of that seller's items-- although there are many red flags all over her closet-- but I am extremely confident that the earrings you were about to purchase are definitely not Tiffany.
Jan 05Reply

jneshops
@prairiecv The design is not Tiffany, the hinge near the post is wrong, the "o" in "Co." is upper-case and on a design like that the engraving would not be so visible. The quality of the engraving is also inconsistent with authentic Tiffany. Hope u find something else you like that is authentic. Good luck!
Jan 05Reply

jneshops
@prairiecv and thank you for the share! ❤️❤️❤️
Jan 05Reply

prairiecv
@jneshops I really appreciate you giving me heads up… I was looking all over for them to see if I saw them somewhere because I have a lot of Tiffany pieces and they don’t look like anything that Tiffany ever made but I’m pretty trusting…. I cannot believe there’s so many people out there that scam… But thank you sweetie I really appreciate it. 😀😀
Jan 05Reply

prairiecv
@jneshops I really appreciate it dear… No need to thank me you have some beautiful things… Have a wonderful day and thank you again sweetie…
Jan 05Reply

hlh0904
I have to thank you for this. I carefully examined my Tiffany& Co. collection once more. I had an issue with a fake that Posh refunded my money thank goodness. I had a brooch my mother received as a gift in 1988-1989? It's beautiful, but even though it is hallmarked for 925 sterling and 18k gold, it doesn;t have the Tiffany hallmark. Its heavy weight and I had a jeweler authenticate it. Its real, just not Tiffany & Co. hallmarked.
Jan 08Reply

hlh0904
everything is a lesson, thank you and I will continue my education on Tiffany & Co, items.
Jan 08Reply

jneshops
@hlh0904 thx for your comment. I am always interested in learning more about how to authenticate Tiffany items. To my knowledge, Tiffany pieces ALWAYS bear a maker's mark/ Tiffany inscription of some kind.
Jan 08Reply

jneshops
@hlh0904 they do rub off sometimes.
Jan 08Reply

hlh0904
@jneshops one thing I have learned and you are right. There is no question on the quality of the silver and gold. It is superior!
Jan 08Reply

Jan 09Reply

irisheyesxd
I love Tiffany! I would love someone to point out the fakes for me so I can learn.
Jan 10Reply

akemilynn888
:) Very Interesting! I knew that closest was 'off' ~ It just so happened that I saw her key ring serial # that matched another (507773) on here, that's not possible! The hallmark isn't deep & defined -yet the other from Ga. is. What are the odds of making up a number posting it & that # actually be for sale on here as well?!? lol!
Jan 11Reply

jneshops
@akemilynn888 not sure which closet you're referring to, but I've had unscrupulous sellers use my photos of authentic items for their fake listings.
Jan 11Reply

jneshops
@irisheyesxd there are very good guides online with photos showing the difference between authentic and replica items. That, plus cautious trial and and error, is how I learned.
Jan 11Reply

irisheyesxd
@jneshops but that’s the hard way 😢. Ty for the info I will
Look into that more.
Jan 11Reply

akemilynn888
@jneshops They are different pieces in the pics. I'm pretty certain it's the same person per part of what is mentions through here. Either way, I understand your frustration! I have also seen some terrible attempts to copy Tiffany brand.
Jan 13Reply

jneshops
@lexaaabear ok; what's the exact title of the post? Plz don't tag me on the listing.
Feb 12Reply

jneshops
@lexaaabear what's the seller's name (w/o the "@")?
Feb 12Reply

jneshops
@lexaaabear looks good to me. To my knowledge, the return to Tiffany line doesn't have the brand written on the back of the charms b/c it's on the front. This is definitely true of older pieces. I did notice an extra jump ring on the other side of the clasp from where the heart is attached, as if the bracelet once had another charm on it.
Feb 12Reply

jneshops
@tiffannidawn those "Tiffany" heart earrings are suuuuuper fake. They're marked "925" for sterling silver but are gold-colored. All of that seller's "Tiffany" stuff is fake.
Feb 24Reply

jneshops
@luvziba see comment above-- beware of fakes!
Feb 24Reply

jneshops
Ps @tiffanidawn-- Tiffany doesn't use less than 18k gold, and the marking for that is 750 or AU750.
Feb 24Reply

luvziba
@jneshops thank u! With the earring is hard to tell besides the backings and some stamping.. but the bracelets and necklaces kill me when they say they are real and the links are visibly pinched together! Lol
Feb 24Reply

jneshops
@tiffannidawn see above
Feb 24Reply

jneshops
@luvziba these earrings are ridiculous b/c they're "gold" but stamped as if they were silver. Sad to see ppl wasting their good money on garbage 😢
Feb 24Reply

luvziba
@jneshops it’s sad. Thanks for alerting everyone! Have a good day!
Feb 24Reply

tiffannidawn
@jneshops omg, thanx sooo much. I’m at work,I waitress so I just looked real fast and was like wow ok. Your right,925. Lol. I’m reporting that
Feb 24Reply

jneshops
@junena29 hi there! The seller selling those "Tiffany" heart earrings sells fake stuff, so those are likely fake. Buyer beware!
Feb 24Reply

jneshops
@aroarriaga79 hi! Those "Tiffany" heart earrings are prob fake b/c that person has other fakes in his/her closet. Buyer beware.
Feb 24Reply

kmm1078
Ugh I hate people passing knockoffs off as legit and pricing them high. I try to report the listing or at least comment about the irregularities of the piece.
Feb 26Reply

kmm1078
So I was noticing a lot of the RTT "vintage" pieces that have serial numbers. I don't know much about the serial numbering system that T&Co used and on what pieces nor could I find much info online. I have seen multiple listings on here though with identical serial numbers and that seems suspect to say the least but again, I don't know much about those numbers. Does anyone here? Were all of the numbers unique? Did T&Co keep registration records?
Feb 26Reply

lilronni
Thanks so much for letting me know about the earrings. Could you tell me why the hook pair are not real, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what wasnt right about them.
Feb 26Reply

jneshops
@lilronni hi, another posher left a comment about how the EP open heart line is marked, so I won't repeat that.
Feb 26Reply

jneshops
@lilronni in addition to the incorrect hallmarks and the shape of the hearts being off, the hook and chain on these does not look like Tiffany quality. That's something that's harder to tell unless someone is familiar with Tiffany or other fine jewelry. That may sound snobby, but it was true for me.
Feb 26Reply

jneshops
@lilronni another giveaway with these items is that Tiffany's silver jewelry typically photographs with a pinkish/copperish cast because they don't treat it with a tarnish-resisting chemical like a lot of manufacturers do. I've never seen Tiffany pieces photograph bright, whitish silver as copies do. Yours have that tell-tale bright, nearly white color to them in the photos.
Feb 26Reply

jneshops
@kmm1078 hi, I don't know much about the serial number pieces but it is my understanding that once upon a time Tiffany did keep records and if a lost piece was actually returned to them they'd make an effort to reunite it with the owner.
Feb 26Reply

kmm1078
@jneshops I have taken screenshots of 7 (!!!) separate active RTT listings with serial number N72464.
Feb 26Reply

belinda61
@jneshops I read your comments with danielar. What do you think about the earrings in her closet? I bought them and want to insure authenticity. Thanks for your listing here.
May 04Reply

jneshops
@belinda61 they look good to me! Btw, I think I bought one of my first pieces of pre-loved T&Co from you-- the dangle bead earrings. Did you sell a pair 3-4 years ago?
May 04Reply

belinda61
@jneshops I did! Thanks so much.
May 04Reply

jneshops
@belinda61 I have the largest size in that hoop and LOVE them-- the line is called Bezet, FYI. I still love those bead drop earrings-- i always wear them with my mod outfits. Cheers!
May 04Reply

hollyholl23
Thanks for posting this; it's great info! I just bought a ring from someone here and when it arrived, the inside stamp, "Tiffany & Co" was crooked and the 1837 isn't centered. It's currently being reviewed by Poshmark, but the seller is insisting she bought it herself years ago. As far as I can see, Tiffany doesn't make mistakes like that, right?!
Jun 22Reply

jneshops
@hollyholl23 In my experience, the stamps inside older pieces (1970s and earlier) are sometimes somewhat irregular compared to the perfection of the newer pieces (1980s to now). The 1837 stamp isn’t inside tho, right? That wouldn’t make sense. Everything about the outside of a piece should be 100% perfect, unless it has been damaged or altered, no matter the age.
Jun 22Reply

hollyholl23
@jneshops This particular ring started being sold in stores in 1997, I believe. It's the square T&Co. ring. Yes, the 1837 is on the outside of the ring. That's what stuck out the most, being off center. Sigh...
Jun 22Reply

jneshops
@txla2004 hi, I ordered a pair of earrings from you and noticed that all of your listings have been removed from Poshmark. Can you tell me why?
Jun 29Reply

lindylu19
@jneshops Hi I was reading about fake Tiffany and Hermès how do you tell on the Hermès?
Mine was bought in pairs by a family member at there shop thanks
Sep 30Reply

jneshops
@lindylu19 the best way to learn how to spot fakes is by interacting with authentic items. For Hermès scarves specifically— if you meant the scarves— there are a number of ways to tell real vs. fake, although there are also a lot of really good copies out there now so even if a scarf appears authentic (esp. in pix only) it can actually be a fake.
Oct 01Reply

jneshops
@lindylu19 Try googling “how to authenticate” + whatever brand you’re looking at, and you’ll find comprehensive advice. There are also authentication services that will give their opinion for a nominal fee. Purse Forum is a good resource for many brands as well.
Oct 01Reply

lindylu19
@jneshops thanks so much!

AMEN! 🙌 I routinely report, warn buyers and get blocked by sellers. Extremely frustrating since all sellers have to do is delete and make a new listing.
Nov 01Reply

jneshops
@hedonista yep! Buyer beware for sure.
Nov 01Reply

kvg91
@jneshops I have a question about packaging. I’ve seen some with the rectangle box stamped landscape. Every box I’ve purchased from Tiffany has had portrait orientation. Do you know if the landscape orientation boxes are authentic?
Nov 15Reply

jneshops
@ tinahenschel Hi! If your large DY cable hoops become available again, I'd love a chance to purchase them. Have a nice day!
Jan 22Reply

jneshops
@kvg91 Hi! Sorry that I missed your message from way back in November. Generally, packaging is not a good indicator of whether any item is authentic. That being said, yes authentic packaging comes in portrait, landscape and square orientations.
Jan 22Reply

CAVEAT EMPTOR! I purchased a fake/replica item from this seller: (at)joanncan9 . I'm an old retiree who should have known better and I'm trying not to beat myself up over this. Poshmark was no help. It's unconscionable that Poshmark does not police it's own website. I will not be back. Shame, because I know there are good sellers on Poshmark, I just don't want to chance a bad deal again.
Wished I had seen your post sooner, jneshops.
May 23Reply

jneshops
@angelmom1994 so sorry, Hun. Unfortunately the site is most interested in making money.
May 23Reply

Quick question!!! I’m looking at a Tiffany piece here for sale on posh and I’ve always seen “AG925” on all pieces I own, and the ones listed but the one I’m looking at says “Ag 925” (talking about the on chain near clasp for reference” is this authentic or an accident on a fake?
Oct 05Reply

bagels654
@jneshops I have been trying to find a picture of what the chain is suppose to look like! Please point me in the right direction!
Oct 14Reply

ohhhaykayla
willowsmommy007 is selling a TON of counterfeit Tiffanys. Poshmark agreed with me & agreed to refund my money & they're STILL allowing her to sell thousands of $ worth of these knockoffs. Everythings a "gift" NEVER has a single receipt for like 500 listings. Poshmark is a joke.

Jan 12Reply

jneshops
@ashleyrichau hi! I’m interested in your DY prasiolite ring and have a few questions. I didn’t want to ask on the listing itself in case it came across as rude (has happened to me before, unfortunately). I’m wondering if you’re sure it’s authentic and if so how, and whether the stone looks cloudy IRL. Thx!
May 21Reply

jneshops
@ashleyrichau Also, random— I grew up in Garland. I usually check ppl’s profiles when it looks like they’re from TX, and when I saw “Garland” I was so surprised! What a coincidence! 😆
May 21Reply

ashleyrichau
@jneshops you can add that item to a bundle and then comment on the bundle to keep questions between you and the seller. I dont find your questions rude at all. it is authentic and its prasolite so it's not a clear stone but I dont find it to be overly cloudy. I tried to post as accurate of photos as possible. hope this helps!
May 21Reply

jneshops
@ashleyrichau oh, thx! I didn’t know that. Thx for answering my questions.

@ohhhaykayla I was looking at her page and it’s a LOT of fake Tiffany’s! So glad I found this comment thread!! I was second guessing myself. I feel like the personal sellers, people who wore the jewelry and need to sell it MIGHT actually be more trustworthy—as opposed to someone who has TONS of Tiffany’s, and photographed with flowers and filters as well

omg i jus purchased a tiffany and i just saw this after offer was accepted. now im worried it is fake. is there anything i can do?
Jan 27Reply

@kate0512 u can cancel purchases within 3 hours but if it’s past that you’ll have to file a claim with poshmark after the item arrives or try to get the seller to cancel the sale.
Jan 27Reply

@jneshops Hello! I came across your post in my search for a Tiffany and Co necklace. Specifically the medium smile necklace, I found a seller that seems legit, but how could I tell if that particular piece is authentic or not? Thanks 😊
Jan 29Reply

@poshyiyi sorry, but I don’t know with regards to that piece.

PSA!! When buying signature “Return to Tiffany” jewelry, the pendants ALWAYS will say “Tiffany & Co 925” on the back no “Tiffany AND Co 925” and if the font looks off to you, it’s probably fake! Just saw a fake wrap chain on here :(

@jneshops any advice for me? Should I cancel this order?

jneshops
@metgrl that account has a lot of red flags. I wouldn’t order from it.

@jneshops Thank you for your opinion. I really appreciate it.

@jneshops can you explain the red flags so I don't make this mistake again?
Aug 30Reply

jneshops
@metgrl sure. Multiples of the same item for sale. Only sells Tiffany. No consistency in the backgrounds of the pix, indicating that the pix themselves are probably taken from other listings. One of the pix on the listing for a heart tag bracelet says “Vivi,” which is not the same of the seller. Only one review despite many pieces sold. Hope that helps!

Check out the Tiffany items Tawir2737 is selling….it’s essentially Claire’s jewelry she’s claiming is Tiffany….it’s so sad bc she says on all her items that it has no inscription or it wore off…..I have no idea why posh won’t remove those listings, I’ve reported so many times 😩

@jneshops btw, that order I placed with that seller finally came in. Lesson learned. Seller is selling fake items. Luckily, Poshmark is allowing me to send these back. The seller deleted all of her listing after I asked you to check out her page. I am definitely educating myself on how to spot sketchy sellers and fake products.

Hi there! Could you tell me if you think this one is authentic? https://poshmark.ca/listing/TIFFANY-Co-OLIVE-LEAF-VINE-BRACELET-5f57dce28da5c9925f0fc473

I am in the middle of a dispute over a Tiffany sparkler that arrived in knots literally and now I have questioned it’s authenticity. The seller gave very few pics. I have a feeling this is not going to turn out well and I really wanted an authentic Tiffany necklace. Can I send you pics and or can you look at post that I purchased from and give me any heads up? I would really appreciate it.

What about the Poshmark authentication for merchandise over $500? That should hopefully provide another level of scrutiny on the Tiffany & Co. pieces?

@katie8758 can you take the items to Tiffany to clean, so you would know it is real or fake?

@jneshops thank you for all this insight! Wondering if you can help me with my own uncertainty. I’m trying to figure out if a Tiffany Paloma Picasso graffiti necklace (the “amour” one) is real. It is on a chain that is stamped "T&Co. Ag 925" on the chain tag and "925" on the clasp itself. Do you know if Tiffany ever stamps it's chains with that?

@jneshops Im thinking there are 3 possibilities:
1. Both charm and chain are fake.
2. Both charm and chain are legit. May have come together originally. Or it's possible that the chain is a replacement chain that orig owner had put on the charm.
3. One is legit and the other a fake
So am trying to figure out what, if anything, the markings on the chain signify...

I’m not sure if you covered this seller or not but vsj_al has a few chain necklaces and bracelets where there are visible gaps in the links
