The Petoskey Stone is a rare rock that is shaped from a fossil. The Petoskey Stone is named for Ottawa Chief Petosegay which means rising sun or sunbeam of promise.
Petoskey Stone, Michigan's state stone, holds a rich geological history. Formed through the fossilization of ancient coral known as hexagon-aria, it can be found along the picturesque shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. These fossilized corals thrived in the warm, shallow seas that covered Michigan approx. 350 million years ago during the Devonian era. A true testament to the beauty of the Great Lakes state. It showcases the stunning natural patterns and colors of the Petoskey Stone.
This stone was found in Lake Huron, Michigan. Hand rounded, sanded and polished. A lot of time and dedication went into making the finished product.
I do my best to take multiple photos in natural lighting, however due to variations in individual user’s monitor settings, calibrations, color printing settings, and lighting sources, we cannot guarantee that the product will be an exact match to the colors represented on the screen.
