ratonrebel Howdy! Can you prove that these are originals (COA), and not mass-produced reproductions? These Phil Stern photos have been reproduced ad-nauseum. If the latter, they have no intrinsic value beyond $10-$20. I sincerely hope that you are not relying on the label barcode that says James Dean 1955. Scanned product barcodes did not exist during the 50s. This is simply a description of the photo in the present tense.

einstein325 @ratonrebel I’ve removed them from the gram and seem to be actual photos and not reprints. As far as the label is concerned they were bought at an auction from the previous owner.

ratonrebel @einstein325 Not exactly convincing proof. There are no markings that would indicate the paper make? Auctions do not have pre-set price bar codes on the back. This was originally sold at a poster/gift shop.

einstein325 @ratonrebel what would indicate gift shop? Marking label because of the receipts from them being professionally framed is what baffles me. Like I said I didn’t unscrew and break seal on the inside of the frame too look at pic. I have to take the pics to the gallery it was framed in to have the process done and I was quoted 345$ from opening it inspecting and closing it. So I left it at that. They’re amazing even if left unsold. Thanks for the awesome insight.

ratonrebel @einstein325 Awesome insight indeed, as I have been collecting Deanabilia 4 over 30-years. $345 2 matt & frame 2 8x10s? LOL! Where did u obtain this from? Where is the COA proving its authenticity, let alone that u spent hundreds 2 frame? There are original Phil Stern photos 2 be had, you simply haven't proven that your set is original. Yes, the reproductions of Phil Stern, Roy Schatt, Frank Worth, Dennis Stock, Sid Avery & Sanford Roth have been reproduced on every medium & sold in stores.

ratonrebel Rather the originals of said Dean photogs (most worked for LIFE magazine) have been reproduced ad-nauseum in every medium. Posters, shirts, cups, you name it! All this appears 2 b foreign 2 u? FYI: Someone is selling the very same photo with the same grey backing on eBay for $15. It's a Fotofolio Postcard from the 90s. This leads me 2 believe that is what was used 4 your framed photo. If yours was indeed original, the same color backing would not appear: https://www.ebay.com/item/392916154841

ratonrebel Typo in link (itm not item): www.ebay.com/itm/392916154841 Once again, the original photo of Dean resting on a chair was not taken with any colored background border. The background was added to the same mass-produced postcard.
