Original Gerz West Germany Lidded German 9”Stein Cold War Era

Gorgeous 9" stein marked GERZ: It's in excellent condition for its age with no chips or cracks. This is what I'm found about it: German beer stein, also known as a Bierkrug in German. These traditional mugs have a long history, dating back to the 14th century when they were designed with lids to prevent the spread of the Bubonic Plague by keeping out insects. Historically made from earthenware, they are now crafted from various materials such as porcelain, ceramic, pewter, wood, silver, crystal, and glass. Steins often feature intricate designs, including family crests, people, holiday scenes, and animals. The lids, typically made of pewter, originally helped keep beer clean and are now a traditional part of the stein.
