A little history… In the early 1400s, Mongol armies conquered over 3000 year-old glassmaking sites creating a void in the glass bead trade. The Venetians filled this void and successfully dominated glass bead trade in Africa and Southeast Asia for over 500 years! The extra pic is of a sample bead card acquired in 1865 by the British Museum of beads specifically traded for palm oil in Africa. Some are quite similar to the style of these.
