Ojime Bead Netsuke Squirrel on Peach Hand-Carved Boxwood Signed Figurine

Exquisite hand-carved wooden boxwood ojime bead for netsuke featuring a Squirrel on Peach figurine. Ideal for collectors or as a unique decorative piece. Boxwood is a small tree and shrub. Due to the limited size of the material, it is rarely used for full-sized pieces of furniture, but more often for small, carved objects or as decorative inlay. Boxwood is very durable and dense and its fine even texture makes it especially suitable for carving. Because of its extremely small vessel cells, the texture is exceptionally smooth and fine, and the surface polishes to a silky luster. This bead is delicately hand carved from the finest boxwood by skilled Netsuke carvers and is individually signed. The eyes are obsidian inlays. The Japanese squirrel is known as “kibitsu” or “inoshishi,” and they are often associated with various aspects of life such as wisdom, intelligence, and adaptability. Peaches symbolize longevity, fertility, renewal, and the elimination of evil.
