I was so anxious to see what the quality and material of the new unicorn tears drop would be, so I wanted to post some pictures of an OG and UT Folk Town boho side-by-side for anyone else who was wondering. Overall, I am impressed by the quality of the dress. The fabric feels almost identical, but it’s not quite as soft. I chalk that up to the fact that my original has been worn and washed, so it is softer. I imagine the new version will soften with a wash as well. The lengths of the two are very different, in these photos both dresses are a small, the original is much longer than the UT version. The only thing I really don’t like with the unicorn tears version is the lines are not very clean on the digitally printed version, you can see where some of the leafs go past the yellow line in the bust area, and it just looks messy. Due to the numerous quality issues with the spell pieces I have received in the past year, I had pretty low expectations for this drop. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of this dress. I am also happy that the fabric seems to be the same, even though they said it would not be. I posted a close-up picture of the fabric so you can even see the weave on the two is very similar. Obviously the UT version looks a little brighter, because it is new. I imagine it will age the same over time. The fabric seems very nice, and doesn’t seem like it will snag super easily like all my newer spell pieces do. Happy to answer any other ?’s anyone has ❤️

madamemuse Thanks for posting comparison photos. Tracking says mine should arrive today so I’m anxious to see in person. Bummed to hear the length of the UT boho is shorter but I sized up so maybe there’s a chance it won’t be.

gypsythrift22 Thanks so much for posting this! It will be a couple weeks before I return home to receive my UT pieces. Bummer about the sloppy print lines and bummer (I think) that the pattern design is not identical. I wasn’t anticipating shorter. Just curious your reasoning for returning other pieces? If you don’t mind me asking? Ps. This is a keeper reference post. I hope you’ll leave it up as I’m sure there will be need for future clarification between the releases.

mamatried79 @gypsythrift22 I will absolutely leave it up. I have just been so disappointed by the quality of Spells newer pieces & I was so nervous about these. I have literally returned every single piece that has been digitally printed that I purchased directly from spell in the past year and a half. I definitely am not someone who can afford to spend over $200 on a dress that can only be worn one time before it starts falling apart.

mamatried79 @gypsythrift22 I would do a comparison for the blouse and skirt also, but I do not have the original blouse in this color, or the skirt either. They are digitally printed, and the other side of the material is bright white. They do seem to be thicker, and of a better quality than a lot of spells recent digitally printed pieces. I don’t think I will be keeping them. The Winona dresses is just are not flattering on me so they’re going back. I’m super short, and they just look frumpy.

lemurianmuse @mamatried79 Thank You Shannon for posting this. It is so helpful and really illustrates the quality of digital printing versus the OG. I’m glad to hear that someone else thinks the Winona is frumpy on shorter bodies. I do think these pieces look best on taller gals.

iamgeni Thank you for sharing this! Looks like the edges of the orange flowers have some bleed along the edges of the UT version, too. Not crisp like the OG.

mamatried79 @iamgeni yep. It feels like a quality piece which I’m happy about. Hopefully it holds up much better than their other current releases have lately.

jenden615 This is so helpful, thank you! I was wondering did the boho have the same shoulder issues as the play dress? I got a dress in extra small folk town I think it was original, I bought it months ago, and the shoulders were just strange. I have very narrow shoulders and I’m a narrow framed person and always an extra small and when Ipulled my shoulders and arms to the front. It was so tight on my back. Do you know what I’m talking about? Thanks so much.

mamatried79 @jenden615 I found the UT version to be more boxy up top. It didn’t have the same tight back ❤️
