Vintage 1960s NOS Norwegian Hand Knit Cardigan Sweater in Main Color of 2 Greens, w/ dark green ribbing & cream, gold & rust fair Isle accents. 10 shining silver colored traditional hand made pewter buttons in wildflower motif. Never Worn, New Old Stock, Excellent Condition, Rare & Very Special. Sweater is a Highly Collectable one of a kind. This warm thick sweater is knit in worsted weight 100% new wool from Norwegian sheep. Worsted weight wool is a thick winter weight yarn that is very cushy, plush & warm. With a turtleneck sweater in silk or wool underneath is is warm enough to wear outside in snow & is often worn as an outer layer for skiing in Scandinavia. I This style is a cardigan with dark green ribbing, button & buttonhole bands The high ribbed collar can be worn buttoned up & rolled down in the middle for a double thick turtle neck to keep out wind & cold or unbuttoned & spread out for a flattering open collar. The colorful yoke is knitted in a fair isle pattern in a technique known as stranded knitting in which different colors of yarn are carried along the backside of the garment twisted & brought forward to alternate colors thus creating the design. This technique results in a double thickness of wool over the neck & chest which is extra warm while creating the flattering face framing effect of an elaborate wide multicolor necklace.
