True Vintage 1920s Noritake China Butter Dish Tub Liner Strainer Two Handles Gold Trim Flowers Porcelain Hand Painted Gilt
It’s a butter bowl but can be used for olives, pickles or bar condiments.
Pattern- 42200
*before patterns had names
Gold trim, orange and blue accents
Approximately 5”x 2”
No chips or cracks, a little wear of the gold on the outside and a porcelain nub on the inside from manufacture.
I’m not an expert, google is my friend.
At first I thought the strainer/insert ring was a flower frog only to discover it’s a butter dish.
You place the butter over the pierced platform so the melted ice used to cool the butter could drain into the container below. I don’t believe it was produced with a lid- no groves at the top for lid placement.
The red “M” marked on the back is Morimura Brothers import mark used before 1953, this should be dated before 1920 ….maybe 1918.
I inherited many interesting items from my grandmother and slowly going through boxes. While I think a lot are cool, Im ready to part with a few. She wasn’t a hoarder just a person born in 1919 who held on to meaningful objects throughout her life.
I’m holding onto the “Christmas Ball” items and feel it complements this pattern.
