Nikon Coolpix S550 Digital Camera 10MP 5x Optical Zoom 2.5" LCD, not working?

A high-quality compact digital camera offering 10 megapixels, 5x optical zoom, and a 2.5" LCD screen. Includes charger, software CD, and user manual. I acquired this as shown with no charger. I ordered a new charger from Az ($8.50), which is included. I tried to charge the battery, but afterwards the camera would not turn on. If the camera is working properly, then perhaps the battery is unable to be charged?
