"Guns of the Askari" is a board game published by Against the Odds Magazine that focuses on the East African Campaign during World War I. Designed by Hjalmar Gerber and Paul Rohrbaugh, the game recreates the imperial struggle for East Africa, featuring classic land battles, naval engagements between lake flotillas, cruiser duels at sea, and hit-and-run guerrilla engagements. Players take on the roles of the German forces and the Allied forces (primarily British and Belgian). The German commander, Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck, led a remarkable guerrilla campaign with his well-trained and highly motivated African soldiers, known as Askaris.
