Native Navajo Handmade Tufa Sterling Silver Turquoise Bracelet By Kevin Yazzie

Heavy Navajo Bracelet of Tufa Sterling Silver and Turquoise from Nevada Fox Mine. Horses, bevel platforms, edging and decorative ends are silver overlaid on the tufa. Tufa made of silver looks a lot like medieval chain armor. We’re talking a lot of silver here. Kevin Yazzie is a well known Navajo jewelry artist. He is well known for his use of tufa and sterling. His horses are beautifully carved. You can see an eye on each one. The platforms that the stone bezels are mounted on are free form as well. The edging and the decorative ends on the back of the bracelet are stamped within scallops. The turquoise stones are very blue green consistent in shape and color. They are from the Fox Turquoise Mine in Lander County, Nevada. Turquoise from this mine is known for its hardness. The bracelet is marked with a “K,”” which is Yazzie’s mark. In his case, the outside bottom angle of the K is this and the outside upper angle is thick. It is also marked in cursive “Sterling.” The bracelet is 5 3/4” measured from the inside. There is a 1 1/3” space between both ends of the cuff. The cuff is 5/8” wide. It’s weight is 4.7 grams.
