This medallion pendant necklace traces its origin to Haines, Alaska and the Tlingit Indigenous tribe. In Tlingit culture, as all Native American tribes, the eagle holds a place of reverence and represents strength and power. The indigenous Alaskan tribes are divided into the Eagle and Raven clans and are determined by maternal lineage. In tribal lore, the Raven and Eagle are brothers in law. The raven plays a big role in the tribal story of creation, while the Eagle helps to keep the Raven in check in many ways.
This necklace is handmade using beads and animal hide. The medallion is stitched to represent the eagle and is adorned with beads. The necklace chain is hand beaded and features small blue flowers( possibly representing forget-me-nots). The beaded necklace chain measures 15” in length( hanging), and the eagle medallion measures 3” in diameter.
A wonderful representation of hand crafted Tlingit jewelry.
