This rare and large piece of pottery is of the Acoma Pueblo of New Mexico; best known for their unique pottery style and method, utilizing techniques which have been in practice since the Acoma establishment in 1150 A.D. As the Acoma are descendants of the Mimbres civilization (550 B.C. - 1150 A.D.), the Mimbres style and technique is prominently referenced in their own pottery practice, especially during the mid 20th century to the present. They devised a black on white style and then incorporated black, white and grey colors in the pottery. The shapes and designs on this pottery are organic in nature with a lighter grey color over white. The background color of the pieces is white on which are light grey motifs of the sun, feathers, spaced lines, bands, lattice work, rain, clouds, lightning and scalloped designs on the top of the rims, as well as flowers and buds. This type of pottery is rather rare in the present-day market-See the evaluation document of the item uploaded as a document to this listing. The condition is good with some small chips-see photos-with the chips and scuff marks considered in the evaluation report. The evaluation was done on two pieces, and a very similar, slightly smaller piece is for sale and available in our store as a separate listing. Both pieces are an excellent addition to your personal collection-or a fantastic display piece wherever you choose to place it! # 3932
