A move to Paris in 1937 paved the way for Balenciaga to step into the international spotlight, as the master tailor and visionary designer debuted a slew of now-iconic sculptural silhouettes from cocoon coats to tunic dresses, before retiring in 1968 and effectively closing the house's doors for decades.
