Motawi Tileworks Sunflower tile

Motawi Tileworks (Ann Arbor MI) "Sunflower" tile in a wooden gold tone/black on sides/edges frame. Striking combination. Tile measurements approx. 7 7/8" tall x 3 7/8 wide x 5/8" deep. Framed tile approx. measurements: 9 7/8" tall x 5 5/16" wide. Very good pre-owned condition. Smoke free home. Unable to bundle. English artist William DeMorgan created tiles that were dust--pressed flats, the designs looking like charcoal sketches overlain with watercolor paintings. While very different technique for Motawi's own raised-line "cuenca" style, this Sunflower tile is the first of 3 vertical floral pierces adapted from his work. Each Motawi tile is crafted by hand. The "Sunflower" tile boasts rich colors, texture, and movement which are complimented by the frame. This design has a powerful and irresistible effect. A captivating style of motion in the design.
