German mineraloligist Fredrich Mohs developed this scale in 1812 and it is still in use today.
Many of us clean or charge crystals and minerals using water as our element, or the sun to infuse masculine energy. Great for quartz but not so great for softer stones.
A crystal of 5.5 or less on the Mohs scale should not be put in water or left exposed to the sun for long periods. There are of course always going to be exceptions. Making elixirs or infusions for example where you know you have a sacrificial stone.
Lapis Lazuli and most stones ending in "ite" fall into the soft category.
Crystals are a non renewable resource and we should all be mindful of their handling.
