2littlebigdogs @hugosman -Hi, I re-measured the sweater as requested. Lying flat & measuring from pit to pit (no stretching) it measures 24”-or 48” total circumference. The sweater fabric has stretch to it-so stretching it a bit it can reach the 54” inches. It may be a manufacturer sizing error or the sweater just runs bigger. My son, whom the sweater belongs to is not heavy-but is x-large boned & the sweater fits him great. I hope this helps. :)
