I've always loved fashion and now I can curate a little boutique of my own - without the costs of starting a brick and mortar business - many of which fail due to high overhead costs and debt service. Yes, the accounting expertise doesn't hurt. Since I'm here, I'll share a few more things from your closet. You might notice that I am doing more live modeling, I hope it helps drive sales. xiaozhou90 @poetmuse That's great you're putting lots of thought about the collection of clothes you're selling! Half of my closet I'm trying to put together in a more cohesive collection, but the other half is just 'clearance' clothes I've outgrown from my teenage years. You might notice I put them on bottom of my closet, haha. And yes! Love that you model too! Clothes really come to life on the body. I never buy any clothes without seeing how it drapes on the body. :) can't wait to see more from you!

xiaozhou90 @poetmuse Have you searched on YouTube for reseller videos? They talk about where to source! Might be useful and interesting to watch if you haven’t yet. :) Ah that sounds lovely! You have a head start if you already know what you’re going for! Most of my closet now is from my personal closet! But I do want to expand after I sell them! I love simple, well fitted and classy clothes, basically clothes that I will still want to wear ten or 20 years later (might be too high expectation, haha)

Maybe at costume shops these days... also have you tried eBay for selling clothes? I recently started and I had some luck. I heard eBay is great for men’s items and more mature female brands!

poetmuse @xiaozhou90 Ralph Lauren did the clothing for Downton, I am sure they are archived somewhere. They should auction them for a good cause, they could make an event of it - with dinner and drinks. Or a period theme with dancing! I have heard that there are more scammers on eBay and that makes me hesitant. As I build my closet I will eventually shift some things to a faster sales venue. For now, I am working on Posh. xiaozhou90 @poetmuse That sounds like a great idea! Sounds really fun and I bet it would spark a lot of interests and make lots of money too! Yes there are a lot of scammers on eBay. I heard they target new sellers. But they’re pretty easy to spot because they’ll offer me an amount more than I listed for and usually ask me to text them (also their account is usually created today when I check)! There’s also some on poshmark too unfortunately.

poetmuse @xiaozhou90 Let me know when your new items are up, I'll take a look. I have a new jacket listed for holiday attire, it is a rare find but too large for me. I see now that I need to curate it better. I haven't quite decided how to model clothing that is too large for me. Do I cinch it back and show it as more fitted or do I let it hang on me? I don't want the buyer to think it is too small. What are your thoughts on this? Mella

xiaozhou90 @poetmuse Will do! Ah, I have some items in my closet that are too big for me too. It's a struggle sometimes! I try to cinch it in the back if it's a dress/skirt/shirt to make it look as best as it should look. For blazers, I try to work with the baggy look. I tried opening the blazer, putting one hand on my waist on my clothes underneath the blazer. Or I pretend to play around with the blazer opening (haha). I'll have to show you the pictures. I'll tag you in the blazer poses I'm talkin about.

xiaozhou90 @poetmuse I've worried about buyer misunderstanding the fit too. I try to include my measurements and how it fits me in the description, and whether i'm holding extra fabric back. And for skirts, I've recently decided to always include waist measurements in the description. Please let me know what your thoughts on it too! I'm still trying to figure out as well :)

poetmuse @xiaozhou90 Yes, you've made the blazers look fun, then the extra fabric works well. I usually tell the buyer what size the model wears relative to what size the item is and then mention that it is cinched back in the photograph to make it look more fitted. I hope that helps but some will still be confused. People who take the time to read the description will understand. I think we do need to have a variety of sizes to choose from and that means modeling items that don't quite fit.

Can’t wait to see your closet grow soon! Also I’m not farther along! Still 99% is my own clothes that I don’t wear often, which I just want to clear them out so my closet is less cluttered

xiaozhou90 @poetmuse I have learned that mini skirts are really hard to sell for me! And I’m going to stick to dresses, shoes, and jackets mostly when sourcing, unless it’s a truly special piece. :) it’s nice talking about our selling experiences!

poetmuse @xiaozhou90 I agree, jackets are such an essential piece and easier to fit than other items so buyers might feel more comfortable picking such an item. I saw a review of Poshfest 2019, their metrics imply that sellers see an uptick in sales after they list 200 items and have over 20K followers. I have no doubt that you can double your number of followers, and it is good to know that there is a noticeable difference in sales when that happens. Yes, let's stay in touch. Mella

poetmuse @xiaozhou90 The midi length is what is on-trend right now, although one extreme usually follows another. Skinny jeans were followed (this Fall) by a frumpy fit jean; overlong (cuffed or tripped over) and wide in the leg. I tend to buy what I like regardless of fashion trends so I am sure there are others who agree. You'll sell those minis!
