David Steiner is a Sarasota-based artist, photographer, and founder of Divergent Image Contemporary Photography Gallery. With a background in painting and art history, Steiner spent years co-owning State of the Arts Gallery before turning his creative focus to photography. Influenced by his early exposure to imagery—his father worked at Kodak—Steiner sees photography as an extension of his painter’s eye, using composition, color, and texture to reframe the overlooked. His work often highlights urban details, weathered objects, and ephemeral textures, inviting viewers to find beauty in the forgotten. Through Divergent Image, he curates bold, experimental photography that challenges perception and deepens the dialogue around contemporary visual art.
