Want the look of Tanzanite but not the price? Try Iolite! They are very similar to tanzanite in color, hue, and brilliance, though Iolite tends towards Indigo where Tanzanite leans towars Violet. These are pictured in both indoor and outdoor lighting to showcase their pleochroism (color shifting) and rich color. Tanzanite has limited deposits and is more well known, so it is in higher demand, but Iolite might well be better suited for jewelry that is worn day to day. It is harder in the mohs scale and is more scratch resistant. Quality iolite like these are valued around $80/carat, whereas tanzanite of this approximate shade is about $600/carat.
