History
Charles Mason, the third son of Miles Mason, patented "Ironstone China" in 1813. Ironstone was a cheaper alternative to the imported Chinese porcelain that was popular at the time
Mason's Ironstone was decorated with transfer-printed designs that were inspired by Japanese and Chinese styles. The designs were often applied to a greyish-blue ironstone body, which was then enamelled with colors and lined with gold or apricot lustre
The company changed hands and names several times after Mason's retirement in 1813. In 1968, the company was renamed Mason's Ironstone China Ltd.. The Wedgwood Group later purchased the company
