Created in collaboration between two all-female teams, the 2021 Marimekko x adidas collection brings some of the former’s archival prints to the latter’s most innovative footwear to date. The first capsule – which includes sneakers like the adidas NMD and Stan Smith – highlights the legendary prints from the Finnish label: 1965’s Laine (wave), Comfortable, durable and performance-ready takes like the UltraBOOST are given bold, vibrant flair courtesy of Marimekko’s prints; accompanying midi tank dresses, swimsuits, hoodies and other apparel items follow suit. The Laine design has previously appeared on homeware and other items, but never on adidas’ sustainably-conscious, sport-ready fabrics and shoes. “This functional yet playful collection,” said Creative Director at Marimekko, Rebekka Bay, “aims to spark the joy of exploration in everyday lives.”
