Rare and Large Couroc of Monterey Rectangular Serving Tray! Beautifully crafted and wonderfully whimsical. As the Couroc of Monterey co. once advertised: “No two are exactly alike” and “Any tray can serve a drink. Only Couroc can start a conversation.” The black resin tray is hand inlaid with natural materials (brass, stone, shell, mother of pearl) to create the pattern: A sassy French poodle struts along with red parasol and matching bow while another stands partially hidden inside a Parisian dog-style portapotty. The glittery gold accents and red and green inlay sparkle against the black satin finish. Measures 18” x 12 1/2”: a fabulously large size for use of display. Condition is good, but not perfect: I include photos in various light and angles to show signs of age and use. Shine up, if desired, with a little oil or paste wax. History: Whimsical and intricately designed, Couroc trays and barware were produced for more than 40 years by highly skilled artisans in Monterey, California. The trays in particular were very popular and sold in high-end department stores throughout the mid century era. Due to a unique process of hand-inlaying natural materials and fusing them into phenolic resin, no two Couroc pieces are exactly alike; each vintage mid-century modern piece celebrates unmatched beauty and durability.
