Mayer & Sherratt was a bone china manufacturer in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England, that operated from sometime in the late 1800’s until 1941 when it was forced to close during WWII. The company used the trade name "Melba" on some of its wares, particularly after 1921, and was later known as Melba China Co. Ltd when it reopened in 1946 after the war. It closed for good just a few years later in 1951.
This charming cream and sugar set from Mayer & Sherratt is likely from the 1930’s and has a lovely hand-painted yellow flower decoration. The pattern has no name but I have seen many pieces (including these) marked with the number 523, so I call this pattern ‘Yellow Flowers 523’. The creamer is 3 1/2 inches tall and the sugar bowl is 3 5/8 inches wide. Both are in excellent vintage condition with the creamer having a tiny discoloration on the spout that happened during the manufacturing process.
