MARVELOUS 1940s' BEIGE/BROWN STRAW CIRCULAR TILT HAT WITH BROWN GROSGRAIN BUTTON

This is a showstopper hat from the fashionable 1940s'! The beautiful pale beige & brown straw is created as one circular piece which has been shaped into a circle, with an extended cap at the back to keep it in a tilted position.. There is a grosgrain covered "button" at the center of the circle. This absolutely stunning hat looks like it hasn't been worn (except one time I wore it to an opera event). There is an illegible paper label attached to the inside headband with numbers 1026.An elastic band is attached to the inside of the hat to keep it in place. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills. Label: NEW YORK CREATION The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City & the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to compete with French styles. Please do not expect perfection! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
