About the post card:
One year after the lawmakers acted in 1872, the U.S. Postal Service began issuing pre-stamped postcards. In passing the new legislation, Congress responded to demands from the public for an easier way to send quick notes. The Postal Service held its monopoly over printed postcards until May 19, 1898, when Congress passed the Private Mailing Card Act, allowing private publishers to print them. People could mail such cards for one cent instead of the two-cent letter rate.During this period, you could not put any messages on the back of the cards. However, a small space remained on the front for notes from the sender. Messages were not allowed on the address side of postcards. After March 1, 1907, the back of the card was divided in half, with the left side reserved for messages while the right side carried the address.
