Linwood Mine Calcite with Marcasite No more Calcite pieces are coming out of this mine which is one of the largest underground limestone mines in the United States. From Linwood Mining Company in Buffalo, Iowa, Scott County. For quite a while the Mining Company has not allowed employees to remove Calcite pieces from the mine. You can only get pieces from the second market or if you are lucky enough to purchase a piece from a former employee. I live about 5 minutes from this beautiful mine located along the Mississippi River. Measures approximately 4.0 X 1.09 inches. Had beautiful Calcite cubes and amazing Marcasite patches. The matrix is Limestone. Very sparkly. From my no pet, non-smoking home.
